There are several products commonly used for identification of assets, the choice depends on the issues you consider important in your environment. Types of Materials: Asset Labels are available in paper, polypropylene, polyester (a tougher plastic material also known as Mylar) or aluminium. All these materials are commonly used for asset identification in commercial applications, IT and for general industrial use on machinery. Paper labels are only suitable for short term identification and are not waterproof (maximum 6 months). Best use for warehouse box labelling or inventory. Paper comes in various colours, Fluoro colours are also available. Polypropylene material is the lowest cost option for long term identification (up to 6 years). It is a white material which can be printed in different colours to suit your requirements. This material is typically used for interior applications where there is minimal handling of the asset, or the label can be located in a low contact position. Polypropylene is available with standard aggressive adhesive or with a high tack option (Tyretac) at a higher cost. Though more expensive, the Tyretac gives best performance for rough surfaces. Polypropylene has the same aggressive adhesive as the standard silver Mylar. Polyester label is available in white and clear finish with an aggressive adhesive (lasts up to 6 years). These labels adhere well to smooth surfaces, and are moderately abrasion resistant. (By this we mean that they will cope with frequent handling and cleaning but would not pass a wire brush cleaning test). `VOID’ security adhesive, is a tamper evident product used to deter label swapping in warranty situations etc. when removal is attempted the word `VOID’ becomes evident on both the label and the surface to which the label was attached. Standard silver mylar would have a marginally stronger adhesive than the `VOID’ material, also withstands high and low temperatures (suitable for freezers or machinery, engines etc) Abrasion and scuff resistance can be improved with the addition of a clear laminate. THIS WILL FUTHER THE LONGEVITY OF ALL LABELS, THEY CAN BE OVER LAMINATED WITH A CLEAR POLYESTER, GIVING THE SURFACE MORE PROTECTION AND WITHSTANDING CONSTANT RUBBING OR CLEANING SOLUTIONS BEING USED ON A FREQUENT BASIS. Aluminium Labels. The lowest cost aluminium material is the rigid 0.3mm thick product which works well on flat surfaces and is suitable for exterior or industrial applications. Exterior life is generally 20 years plus. The softer thinner (0.1mm) aluminium, works better where you have a more diverse range of asset shapes. The print in both aluminium labels is protected beneath a sapphire hard surface layer, which makes these labels very abrasion resistant. The adhesive used on both of these aluminium labels is a very aggressive and versatile 3M product. Alternatively the rigid aluminium can be supplied with holes for rivet or screw mounting. Samples. While our asset labels have a very long service life in general industry, there is no product that will withstand determined attempts at removal. As labels are custom made, and printed with your specific information, it is vital that samples be tested to find the best product for your needs. Please contact our office if you require samples to be posted out. Application preparation. For best results with all labels, the area where the label is to be affixed should be first cleaned with metholated spirits or any similar alcohol based cleaner, so that the surface is free from oil and dust. The label is then firmly applied, being pressure sensitive. Maximum adhesive strength develops over 24 hours.
